What is an atheist?

Nowhere in the Qur'an is the word atheist directly mentioned. Because, atheist is a modern and artificial term.

Many believe that atheists do not believe in a Creator of any kind. In fact, it is a misnomer. The name of the creator that atheists believe in - wind or instinct.

For example, the Qur'an says:

أَرَأَيْتَ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ لَِلَٰهَهُ هَوَاهُ فَفَأَنتَ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِ وَكِيلًا

“Do you not see him who takes instinct as his god? Will you still be his lawyer? ” [Surah 25 / Furqan - 43]

That is, those who worship their own desires, lusts and instincts are called atheists in modern language. In simple terms, we can call atheists 'instinct worshipers'. In the Qur'an, they are called polytheists.

In our society we see that instinct worshipers or atheists consider themselves very wise. Are they really wise?

The answer to this question is given by Allah Ta'ala in the next verse.

َْمْ تَحْسَبُ أَنَّ َْكْثَرَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ أَوْ يَعْقِلُونَ ۚ ِْنْ هُمْ ِّلَّا كَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

“Do you think that most of them listen or use reason? In fact, they are like quadrupeds; Rather, it is even more misguided. " [Surah 25 / Furqan - 44]

That is, worshiping instinct and using reason is not the same thing. Atheists think they are very wise, but they are as foolish as animals.

That is why in the history of science we see that none of the world's great scholars and scientists like Ibn Sina, Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Biruni, Al-Kindi, Nicolaus Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei, and Sir Isaac Newton were atheists. All were believers in God and very pious.

Finally, we can say that those who do not make proper use of knowledge and intellect, declare their own superiority and worship their own instincts, are called atheists.
